All About Me

My Journey

Hi, Im Abbie, the Instructor and Therapist at In Bloom - Bump to Baby. I started the business after a traumatic pregnancy and birth. There were gaps in my care and I didn’t want any other woman to feel the way that I did. So I trained as a Postpartum Care Practitioner to gain the qualification to help all new mothers on their journey. I had already trained in massage as this was a keen interest for me. So I also decided to offer a full round package, from bump to baby.

I am not a franchise and I am not a big company. However, I am hard working and always strive to offer the best service at competitive prices. Trying to ensure I’m providing the service you are requiring.

I am the only person in my business,
this means I can tailor your appointments to suit your individual needs. I am able to be more personable with you and if you need more time, I can give that to you.

I worked in the NHS for 10 years prior to  running my own domiciliary company for 5 years. Now I am here wanting to make a difference to expecting mothers and new families.

Massage is a  powerful tool that can be used as a natural healer. I povide a safe and nurturing atmosphere in which to heal.  I am always looking to integrate new treatments and therapies into my practice and believe that continued learning is important for any good Massage Therapist.

Antenatal Massage

This treatment is suitable from your 2nd trimester and pregnancies with no added complications. It is a hands-on body treatment that leaves you feeling relaxed and renewed. I love showing my clients how just a few treatments can make an enormous difference to their health and well being. It is recommended to have regular pregnancy massage sessions to eleviate the aches and pains pregnancy can cause. This can be once a month until 27 weeks, and twice a month until 36 weeks. After that, it is recommended that you transition to weekly appointments until you give birth.

Birthing Partner Massage Workshop

This is designed so that your birthing partner feels in control and is able to be proactive in helping you during labour

The ancient art of massage can really help make your labour easier.

Massage stimulates your body to release endorphins, the natural pain-killing, mood-lifting chemicals produced in the brain

Studies have shown that massage therapy performed during labor can help:

  • significantly reduce pain, especially back, leg and joint pain

  • relieve muscle aches

  • reduce anxiety, depression and stress

  • help with nausea

  • improve circulation and oxygen levels in the blood

  • reduce swelling

  • reduce muscle tension and improve flexibility

  • reduce need for pain medication

  • reduce epidurals and Cesarean sections

Pregnancy Massage

Having a treatment like a massage can help raise your endorphin, oxytocin, serotonin and dopamine levels. These neurochemicals affect your happiness levels and make you feel good. Massage can also reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol. And, obviously, feeling happy and de-stressed can only be beneficial for you and your baby. You can have a massage once a week once you get to 36 weeks.

Baby Massage

Baby massage is a lovely way to enjoy time with your baby and it can also help you bond with them.

Before babies are able to understand language, we often communicate and comfort them through touch.

The benefits of regular massage may:

  • Help you and your baby understand each other better

  • Soothe babies and reduce crying

  • Aid digestion and help relieve colic, wind and constipation

  • Help babies to sleep due to release of oxytocin that turns to seratonin

  • Relieve nasal congestion and teething discomfort

  • Help develop good muscle tone, co-ordination and suppleness

  • Enhance body awareness

  • Boost the immune system

  • Improve skin texture

  • Help calm and relax both parent and baby

  • Boost parents’ confidence in handling their baby

  • Releases oxytocin for both of you, the love hormone.

  • Helps you to produce more milk if breastfeeding

Can be done in group classes or private one to one sessions.
